Description
The Great Northern Rly had 7 7ton gunpowder built for them by Roberts in 1905. They were painted white with the raised iron work picked out in vermillion. The vans were lettered also in Vermillion. All 7 passed to the LNER in 1923 but only 4 passed to British Rlys in 1947.

The North British built 48 7ton powder vans similar to the GWR Z1 between 1904 and 1912. The North British painted in Vermillion lettered in white back shaded in black. All past to LNER in 1923. LNER converted 13 to ordinary goods vans. 7 vans were up rated to 9tons. 21 powder vans and 6 ordinary vans passed to British Rlys.
After 1923 the LNER they would have been repainted in LNER grey and this livery would have continued under British rlys.
